Weaner prices
We’re going to have to raise the price of our birth-notified Berkshire weaners from £55 to £60 each at 10 weeks old.
We had hoped to keep them at £55 but rising input prices mean we’d make a loss at that price and, having already incurred a loss on one litter this year, we can’t afford that.
The new price will apply to the litters of Delilah and Daphne.
Delilah’s litter will be available for collection from 30 July, Daphne’s from 5 September, and there will be one last litter for the year in mid to late October.
Looking ahead to 2010, we’re planning a litter to be available in late January to meet demand from a couple of customers.
We also need to plan for the weaners that will be available at Easter next year, 2-5 April, so if you’ll be wanting pigs to finish over the summer of 2010 now’s the time to put your name down.
Prices for litters after Daphne’s will not be set until closer to the time.
I’ll write a post detailing the cost of inputs later, but I have other jobs to do now.

Sounds reasonable to me mate.
and to me!
Won’t having them ready for January also increase your costs with higher inputs? Do you take up front orders? If so, do you take down payments? I’m just beginning to think about doing that with my chickens and/or turkeys for next year but I’m not sure yet. If you have experience/ideas, I’d love to hear them.
cheers,
