Picnic with the Wombats
10 05 2008We took our Australian visitors, known as the Wombats on the Selfsufficientish forums, for a walk to Dunnideer today. We had a nice stroll up the the new eastern access path, enjoyed the spectacular views on the way up and from the top, and had a good look at both the remains of the castle and the Iron Age hillfort. On the way down, we stopped at the Dunnideer stone circle then dashed for home as the heavens opened and the rain came down.
While atop Dunnideer, we enjoyed a picnic lunch with the Wombats. The day wasn’t too clear, with a lot of haze clouding the view, but enough could be seen to gauge the presence Dunnideer must have had as a sacred site, hillfort and castle over the years.

Wish we could come have a picnic with you guys, looks like a great spot there.
I got caught in the rain too. We were descending Glen Doll from Broad Cairn at the time. Luckily the rain was the warm stair rod kind and we’d taken bikes part way up, which cut off a good bit of time.
Mind you. getting soaked to the skin by the rain made fording the river that little bit easier…
