The broad beans are more than ready to plant out

The broad bean seedlings should have been in the ground a fortnight ago, but the snow, hail and rain have left the ground so wet that it’s been difficult to find an opportunity to dig it. In the end, I had to settle for digging wet ground as we’re starting to advance well into our short, northern growing season.

‘We don’t talk to murderers’

As I was dibbing away in the vegetable patch this afternoon, making holes for the broad beans to be planted into, I vaguely watched as a family of four visited the standing stones slightly further up the hill.

Eventually, they wandered back across the field and down the road towards me. (The road goes right past the vegetable patch.)

As Surly Dad, Subdued Mum, Weedy Son (about 10) and Peely-wally Daughter (about 14) walked, they chatted quite loudly, drawing the attention of three of our Berkshire pigs. Read the rest of this entry »
