Yes, I was cycling in this…
8 04 2008When the Wee ‘Un and I saw the Big Lad off on the school bus this morning, a stiff breeze was blowing, snow was falling and snow melt was pouring down the road. But, we decided it was definitely possible to cycle in to the village and drop the Wee ‘Un at nursery. Of course, he would be snug and warm in the Kangaroo Bike’s cabin with a blanket over his knees while I would be perched out in the weather. It didn’t seem to bother him in the slightest…
In fact, conditions were worse than we’d thought as snow melt had collected in vast puddles along the road, the snow flakes were huge, wet and stuck in my eyes, and the combination of cold, wet and wind meant it felt far colder than the still air temperature indicated. On the way in, a cattle truck passed us close at speed and hurtled through a puddle, giving me a thorough soaking. Still, the combination of weather and truck did one thing—they proved my waterproofs work extremely well. By the time I got home I had a good coating of snow on my front, shoulders and helmet, while the bike was equally coated. It was certainly an interesting day for a ride!

roll on summer!
It’s worse today. Temperatures have remained low, there’s been no sunshine and snow is falling heavily, which means the snow is starting to settle on the road. This morning’s journeys are going to be fun.
