With the school holidays in their first week, the Wee ‘Un and I haven’t had our cycling fix for a few days so today we were pleased to find just the excuse we needed—a letter to post. (Well, we didn’t really need an excuse to go for a ride but we can’t be doing things just for pleasure, can we?) The only downside was that I had to dig a lot of snow away to get the Kangaroo Bike out of the garage, out through the steading and onto the road.

The side road was nice and clear, but no thanks to Aberdeenshire Council. After three days without a gritter or snowplough, on Monday I dug the road by hand down to the junction and up to our neighbour before salting it so Mummy’s Little Angel could visit. Add a little sunshine yesterday and this morning, and we had a good start for our ride. The main road was also clear, thanks to sunshine and more frequent traffic, so we had a nice, crisp ride into the village and back. The Other Half was a little bemused that I don’t wear a jersey under my jacket on a cold day like today but I’m not one for gentle riding. It might be a little cool on the downhill run into the village, but by the time I’ve pounded back up the hills on the way home I’m very hot, very sweaty and often have steam coming out around the collar of the jacket!

Sounds like a fab trip. My kids love running errands with me too. Can I just ask. Why does it look like you have 2 metal cages on wheels full of snow?
I couldn’t work out what you were writing about for some minutes. Then the penny dropped—those are 1,000-litre IBCs full of water collected from the roof. They’re sitting on concrete blocks and snow has built up on their tops.
Oh, and it’s snowing again this morning.
hi stonehead.

If you put “Kangaroo” into the search box, you’ll find all my previous posts on the Kangaroo bike, ranging from deciding to buy one, to assembling it, to the one-year review, and more. There are links to the UK Kangaroo Bike website as well, plus to assorted reviews.
A baby seat is available for children up to nine months old (look in the accessories section of the Kangaroo website).
thanks for that stoney, will now begin my investigations…. we have a pretty steep hill between here and the most safely accessed via road village, or it’s pretty flat between here and an equidistant village accessed via deathroad….. so i’d opt for hill over flat! at least i only have 2 very littlies to transport!
