PETA’s latest campaign is riddled with sloppy thinking

No, I’m not trying to get my page views up with a gratuitous girlie photo.

While browsing the Sydney Morning Herald online I came across an article about a new campaign by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), which is promoting the use of synthetic leather Pleather.

PETA’s theory goes something along the lines of “if you wear plastic clothes you’re stopping the deaths of thousands of lovely cute animals”. Read the rest of this entry »





A sliver of sunrise

The sun breaks through the clouds at dawn
Even when it’s wet, windy and overcast, nature is still capable of delivering amazing sunrises and sunsets. This morning, I’d just shrugged my boilersuit on when the light coming through to the back hall changed colour. I popped through to the sun porch, saw this sunrise, raced upstairs and snapped off a couple of photos from the skylights. A few seconds later and it was gone. A magnificent sliver of sunrise that few would have noticed.




A very near thing

The Wee ‘Un and I rode the Kangaroo Bike into the village this morning, flying along at a fair rate of knots with a very stiff breeze at our backs.

It was exhilarating but not dangerously so—until we came rocketing down Dunnideer hill.

As the road started to level, I began to crank hard to maintain our momentum and keep the speed to 25mph or so. Read the rest of this entry »
