What did you do today?

The croft was immersed in a blizzard until almost 3pm, after which things settled down a little with just the usual stiff breeze and temperatures a little above freezing.

But there’s always work to be done around the croft and challenging weather is not enough to bring things to a halt.

Challenging weather

1 02 2008

The wind has eased a little from last night’s storm, but I won’t be cycling into the village as it’s still gusting to between 30 and 40mph.

We’re also getting a lot of freezing rain and sleet, which made the outside chores somewhat challenging this morning.

I’ve just let the chickens out and while the ISA Browns were sensible enough to stay in their houses, the Scots Greys are rather more intrepid and are now being blown about the steading or their pen (depending on which flock they’re in).

I also have the lanterns, lamps and candles , plus the paraffin drum to hand, but so far they haven’t been required.

There are a few outside jobs that have to be done, plus I’ll need to check the animals hourly on a day like this so it’s going to be interesting…
