The World Trade Organisation is maintaining the pressure on the European Union after the Austrian and French governments continued to refuse to allow genetically modified food products to be sold in their countries.A WTO panel decided in November 2005 that some European countries were breaking international trade rules by stopping the import of GM foods and crops.The decision was in response to a case brought by leading GM organism producers Argentina, Canada and the US, which claimed their farmers were losing millions of dollars because of the bans. Preparing dinner…

As I mentioned in my last post, I fancied vegetable soup to accompany the soda crackers I’d made for dinner. With us, the dinner preparations start in the vegetable patch where many of our ingredients are over-wintered under a thick layer of straw. I started by raking back the straw to clear the rows of vegetables and then began lifting whatever took my fancy…

Soda crackers

Allison, over on That’s What She Blogged, was musing on the definition of a soda cracker as she recounted how her husband mistakenly bought her Ritz crackers instead of soda crackers. That’s not a mistake I’m likely to make as I prefer to make my own soda crackers, but the problem was that I now fancied some with soup. I’d better get to work then.
