The date was arbitrarily chosen centuries ago and actually means nothing! I make promises to do better, to myself, regularly, not just in the middle of the darkest time of the year. Just keeping going must be a big enough challenge on your croft at this time of year....! We went to bed at 10pm last night, and fortunately it was raining, which completely drowned out the sound of fireworks (if they had any.
