The weaners make a wary inspection of their pen

Our two Berkshire weaners were not keen on the weather this morning. Days of sub-zero temperatures have left the ground frozen hard, making it difficult for them to get about. Still, a bucket of warm porridge was all they needed to cheer them up.

Christmas decorations

Our Christmas tree
I’ve had a number of requests to show our Christmas decorations. I’ll leave it to readers to decide whether the requests are motivated by straightforward curiosity or a desire to measure our level of consumer hypocrisy. We brought the standby plastic tree down from the loft this year as I couldn’t climb to the top of a spruce to cut us a top for use as a Christmas tree. The plastic tree is at least 12 years old and has many years left in it, but I still prefer a real tree that can be used as firelighters, kindling and firewood after Christmas.

Now it’s getting cold

Waiting for the sunrise at 0847

When I looked out the back door after getting up this morning, I knew immediately that we were into the properly cold weather.

Cold was radiating off the glass, while outside the air was thick with ice haze and ice crystals were sprouting everywhere.
