This is why I wear a cycle helmet

Quite a few, very vocal cyclists like to challenge those of us who prefer to wear a cycle helmet, usually claiming that helmets are largely ineffective and often cause motorists to drive closer to bikes.

There is some truth to both claims.

Cycle helmets are not that effective against high-speed impacts, such as being hit by a car, and leave the face, jaw and occipital area (from the neck to the rim of the helmet) unprotected. Read the rest of this entry »
