Two hours charging and still no go

It never rains but it pours. The Land Rover Defender has now died, almost certainly due to a battery problem.

We drove to Huntly this evening without a problem, we drove back without problem.

We ate dinner and the Other Half went out to drive to school for parents’ evening, but when she turned the ignition key the warning lights were very dim. Read the rest of this entry »

The Wee ‘Un gets to grips with the dough

I haven’t done any baking since the crash, so today the Wee ‘Un proposed making some biscuits so that I’d feel better. We had a chat about what he’d like to make before settling on butterscotch biscuits. I helped with the weighing and measuring, plus heating the butter on the cooker but he did the rest, including working the dough.

Benefits data loss could be trivial

The media and public are rightly outraged by the Revenue and Custom’s loss of two CDs containing the personal details of 25 million people receiving child benefit.

But I feel the loss is relatively trivial compared with the potential harm of a similar data loss when the Government starts rolling out its pernicious ID card and associated databases next year.

It’s all very well for the Government to say the child benefit data should never have left the building it was contained in, and to point the finger at a “junior official”, but any system is only as strong as its weakest link. Read the rest of this entry »
