What’s the damage?
16 11 2007
The cabin took the initial impact of the van, then came my shoulder. When the bike toppled over, the cabin again took the initial impact, followed by me and then the end of the rear axle. Fortunately, the trike has hub gears and these have a protective steel bar to guard the change mechanism and this appears to have prevented damage to the axle or gear change. I’ve yet to give the trike a thorough check, but these appears to be the main locations of the damage.

The right-hand light no longer works and the powder coating was scraped off, but it’s aluminium so hopefully a new bulb will see it back in action.

The impact-resistant polyethylene, UV stabilised cabin base stood up well to both the initial impact and the long slide down the road. It does not appear distorted in any way, while the mud guards appear to have save the wheel from damage.

The worst damage appears to be to the hood, which has a number of abrasions that have gone right through the nylon. The clear plastic windows also have small holes. I need to get the bike out and ride it to assess if there’s any other damage, but that will have to wait until my shoulder heals. Still, it does show that we were right to go for what appeared to be the strongest and safest trike we could afford.

I’ve temporarily suspended comments on the crash and related posts to give myself a break. Comments are likely to be reinstated from midday or thereabouts on Saturday.
Any sooner and I’m likely to break my own rule about no obscene, inflammatory posts should certain types of people post again.
I’m reopening comments again as I’m in better humour - for now - and will try to deal with inflammatory comments without getting too vitriolic myself. I hope!
That cabin must be pretty sturdy, obviously worth the money. Hope the pain in your shoulder etc settles down soon.
