Halfpint by name, but not by nature
4 11 2007
Meet Halfpint, the smallest of Doris’s litter and the last to be farrowed. He took a lot of effort to remove from the uterus, was not breathing when delivered, and took a lot of resuscitating to revive him. But while he may be a Halfpint by name, he’s not by nature. When all the other piglets have retired beneath the heat lamp to sleep, he’s still latched on to a nipple and suckling hard. When forced to quit because Doris has had enough, he’s always first back when she lies down again. Here’s to you Halfpint!

Here’s another character. Sleepy is the second piglet from the bottom and has a couple of distinctive white streaks spreading from the blaze on his snout. He’s been dubbed Sleepy because he sleeps when suckling, sleeps when walking and sleeps when, well, sleeping. At best, he rarely opens his eyes more than halfway. The other piglets squeal and wriggle when picked up. When I pick Sleepy up, he opens one eye quizzically, yawns and goes back to sleep.

Good on yer halfpint…I reckon you just might be one runt who ends up as big as (if not bigger than) his brothers and sisters…
Awww bless his wee heart..
Well done for today and helping Doris out and saving the day and some piglets too….
Go Halfpint! But, um don’t get too big, remember what happened to Babe’s mum?! Anyway what’s wrong with being a runtlet?
Nice to meet you too Sleepy.
Oh, aren’t they lovely! And your previous post on getting them out and viable was harrowing. You are one who will go the extra mile.
Haven’t seen that many nipples at once for a long time.
Cheers! Halfpint!
Just wondering what the average piglet would weigh when first born?
Dear little chap. I know you’ll look after him!
Cute. Amazing such wee piggies will grow into such huge creatures in such a short time. How is Doris doing?
