I try to be constructive and put forward suggestions when criticising something, so here’s one suggestion for alerting drivers to the dangerous bend. It would still be dangerous, but if even 10% of drivers were more cautious here that would be a big improvement over the existing situation.
And yes, I know they’re not correctly spaced to the British Standard and the Slow on the road is not in the correct font, but it’s just a suggestion. And if drivers do crash after blasting past signs warning of the bend, slippery conditions and the need to slow, then they should have the book thrown at them. As far as any progress on getting something done is concerned, Councillor Allison Grant has been in touch and is taking it up with the Road Department. We’re also in the local paper - the Press and Journal.

So all there is at the moment is one ‘bend warning’ sign? for a 90 degree corner?
Sounds rather inadequate,
Good to see that your councillor is taking it up as the aberdeenshire council response in the press and journal did not look to hopeful. In terms of preventing accidents what is the price of a few signs and some road markings not much if it prevents you having to witness another crash.
We have an ’s’ bend locally that is in a dip, and you can’t see that it is there until you are upon it. The optical illusion is of a straight road, because the road continues after the bend in what appears to be a straight line. I am surprised there aren’t more accidents there. There are no road signs. I don’t know what Aberdeenshire council’s criteria are for putting up signs.
Hi Stonehead,
If that bend is as much as an accident hotspot as you say, then down here on the south coast the ‘reduce speed now’ and bend sign would both be mounted on a large yellow rectangle background, as would the chevron, and there may very well be a ‘max speed 15 mph’ sign too. Some village roads down here even have rumble strips and pinch points, specifically to reduce traffic speed.
But then, we have signs down here to warn that toads cross the road!
