There’s a lot of digging to be done

With the rain still holding off, we started lifting the potato crop today. As expected, the yield was seriously down thanks to the serious blight we suffered this year - it was so bad that even blight-resistant varieties of potato were affected. But while the yield might be down, the amount of digging and lifting required is still the same!

Special breakfast day

Now that’s what we call breakfast

Saturday has a different name in this household - the boys call it Special Breakfast Day as that’s when we pull out all the stops and indulge ourselves after a week of porridge. Today, we celebrated the completion of the sausage making earlier this week by having soda biscuits with sausage gravy, scrambled eggs and baked beans.

A chicken keeper with style

I was idly clicking through WordPress’s Tag Surfer to see if there were any interesting blogs on subjects that interest me when, amidst the tidal wave of spam sites, I noticed a chicken keeper’s blog, Grannieannie’s Chookblog.

Or rather, a born-again chicken keeper’s blog as Grannie Annie is a recent returnee to the ranks.

What caught my attention about her blog was a post about trying to move a wardrobe from an upstairs bedroom, down the stairs and outside to house some of her chicks - before her husband got home. Read the rest of this entry »
