Five jars of pickled onions

To finish a day of onions, I’ve just pickled five jars of the smaller ones. It might not look like much, but that’s an hour-and-a-half’s onion peeling and trimming there plus another 20 minutes cleaning, bottling and pickling. The onion in these jars amounted to about a third of a bucket - I still have a bucket and half to go. That’s 18 litres of onions in all.

The Wee ‘Un drags a bucket of onions back to the house

We’ve been busy lifting onions from the field planting yesterday and today, with the boys pitching in to help lift and carry the onions. It’s not easy for the Wee ‘Un to drag a bucket of onions across a field, down and across a hill, down a ramp and through the byre, and then to the back door - but he does it well and with a huge grin throughout.
