The real workers?
3 08 2007
We spent another day earthing up potatoes, weeding jerusalem artichokes, onions and mangels, and doing all the other jobs associated with growing vegetables on a field scale. The boys tried hard to give the impression of being the hardest workers on the croft…

…as did the Other Half! They’re in among the jerusalem artichokes, which are doing reasonably well despite poor weather and the ravages of the local rabbit population. The crop originally started as 12 tubers given to us by friends and has expanded each year as we save a third of the harvest for planting the following year. Next year’s crop should be quite good and the following year will hopefully see us produce enough for pig feed as well as our own consumption.

Looking good boys and OH, those jerusalem artichokes are doing well. How do you cook them and what do they taste like?
Well mate, the boys and your OH are probably the workers of the croft and perhaps can show their dad a thing or two; even if it is just eating the delicious goods at the end.
As for Susie, you cook them on a stove and they taste like jerusalem artichokes ….. chuckle!
