Mmm, even down here in Dorset it's been bad news for the curcubits, and the beans aren't doing anything other than getting eaten by slugs. The forecast's staying cool for this week too - I was hoping for a photo of some beans to cheer me up!

Cold weather and strong winds have largely done for them. They had just started to flower but the weather has gone unseasonally cool, so most of the leaves are like parchment.

The squash, cucumbers, pumpkins and marrows are just holding on, while the other vegetables are seriously checked in their growth. Sigh!

That's great news. I'm no expert but they look like healthy well-bred animals, and their living quarters look great. I bet they produce fantastic meat.

Well, I've had a rush of calls and the weaners have all been sold with a waiting list forming for the next litter.

We ended up with two people wanting three weaners each, plus two more people wanting pairs of weaners. As we only had three weaners left for sale plus two for us, that gave us a dilemma.

In the end, we decided to only hold back one weaner for us and sell a pair of weaners to each of the people that had wanted three. It's a bit of a compromise and will leave us short of pork to sell in the short-term, but we should have another litter on the way soon.

So, two boars are off to Skye, two are off to Dyce and the gilt is staying with us.

But if anyone is still interested in a Berkshire, they're welcome to come and have a look at our breeding stock and, if they want some, put their name on the waiting list.

We have four people awaiting our next litter - hopefully due in the next six weeks - and we have a sow in with the boar to provide a litter after that.

The two boars look to have found a new owner on Skye, while the gilt may (or may not) go with them. As we’ve had so many sales fall through (14 at last count), I’m still taking expressions of interest in them but I’m hoping this sale will go through.
If they do go to Skye, then our pigs are definitely spreading far and wide as we've already sold animals to crofters on Orkney, Raasay and Scoraig. A number have also found their way to various parts of Aberdeenshire.
