Berkshire weaners for sale
6 05 2007
We have eight birth-notified Berkshire weaners for sale, from the the first litter of pure-bred pigs to be farrowed on the croft. The eight, three boars and five gilts, were among 10 farrowed by Doris (Styberry Mermaid 59) on 2 March. The sire was our boar Graham (Lammermuir Namatjira 2). Both the dam and sire are amiable, easily handled animals that meet the breed standards.

The litter is birth notified with the British Pig Association and is listed on the association’s pig search page (set breed to BK, region to Scotland, county to none age range to weaners). The pedigree for the dam and sire can be found in the BPA’s herd book (set breed to BK, owner to JDY, then search to get a list of our registered pigs). One of the boars would be suitable for breeding and could be registered if desired.

The litter was reared outdoors up to weaning last week, but has been brought inside for ease of tagging, notching, worming, and inspection by prospective buyers. The weaners are electric fence trained, fed on a diet of bruised barley, fresh vegetables and sow rolls. They were wormed on 5 May using Panacur 1.5% pellets. The weaners are £40 each until they reach 10 weeks old, after which prices will rise by the cost of their weekly feed bill.

fine looking pigs, Stoney they look a good breed.
The first to depart, a pair of gilts, were picked up by a couple from Dunecht this afternoon and are off to be finished for pork.
Two gilts, one for finishing and one registered for breeding, will be off to new pastures in a fortnight once their prospective owners have their SEERAD paperwork back and their fencing sorted.
As the buyers have said they’ll pay for them now and then pay for their keep for a fortnight, we’re quite happy with that.
Two boars are staying with us to be finished for pork.
And that leaves the four I mentioned in the post.
A registered boar has now gone for breeding on a croft in Wester Ross, leaving two boars and a gilt.
