The Met Office had been forecasting snow showers with up to 10cm of snow accumulating on ground above 150m.
Not any more.
The latest weather warning for Grampian between 1600 today and 0700 tomorrow reads:
Snow, heavy at times, will lead to further accumulations of between 15 and 25cm, mainly on ground above 100m. This snow will drift in the strong to gale force winds. Blizzard conditions will be encountered on the mountains. The public are advised to take extra care and refer to Traffic Scotland for further advice on road conditions.
When the Other Half brought in some firewood just on dark, the wind was blasting through and over the steading while the snow was coming down hard.
At the time, she muttered that it was “getting a bit extreme” out there.
Well, the wind is even stronger now, definitely above 40mph as large trees are moving and it’s hard to walk into the “breeze”, and the snow is still coming down thick and fast.
I think that definitely qualifies as a blizzard, even if our hill doesn’t qualify as a mountain.
Feeding and watering the animals tomorrow morning should be interesting…

Thinking of you. We still haven’t had a single flake here on the IOW. Plenty of rain though….the lawns are really soggy!
snow has more or less gone here now but it was extremely cold last night
What height are you above sea level?
You might be getting some snow, but today we actually had to drive through some minor flood waters on the way to Bathurst (NSW). About 12 inches deep across the road at the deepest. It had all run off by the time we headed home and hour or two later.
First time for years we have seen such sights. There are quite a few thunder storms about now, so we are hoping it will help break this terrible drought.
I hope the snow eases your water situation too mate for the coming summer in your part of the world.
We’re between 200m and 220m above sea level, while Insch is around 130m. That 70-90m makes a big difference to the weather, as does the fact that we’re on a ridge that’s open to the mountains on the other side.
