The boys enjoy the snow

I’ve just been into the village to collect the Big Lad from school because the snow is coming down thick and fast and, while there’s just over an hour until school finishes, the drifts are already forming on the road.

The Wee ‘Un and I were in the Other Half’s Land Rover Discovery with AT tyres, so it was “interesting” on the slick and snowy road into Insch. Visibility was also poor with the snow coming down hard.

So you can imagine our surprise when we approached the bend at the base of Dunnideer Hill and found ourselves in sunlight, with patches of blue sky and a clear road.

To the abattoir

The boys and I have not long returned from taking three pigs - Smunch, Bunch and Thunderpig - to the abattoir in Inverurie for slaughter.

The abattoir run is always a big event, not just because it provides us with meat for months and a little cash to pay for feed, but also because it’s a boy’s trip.

The boys go to be early the night before and are woken early for the big trip. I already have the trailer loaded and hooked up, the gates open, the breakfast and lunch things sorted, and all they have to do is slip on their overalls and jerkins before hopping in the car.
