Ginger, our Tamworth boar, is on borrowed time now that we have a pedigree Berkshire boar. Our original intention was to have Ginger slaughtered and turned into bacon and sausages once we’d bred a couple of litters from him. As such, he’d be worth between £200 and £250. But he’s proved such an amiable and friendly chap that we decided to see if we could find a new home for him as a breeding boar and will take a lot less for him (about £70 if genuinely going for breeding). He’s pure Tamworth but not pedigree so he’d have to go to a meat herd. He’s proven several times (with his most recent litter of 14 now two weeks old), electric fence trained, and accustomed to children playing outside his pen. He’s 23 months old, good for serving gilts and was bred at East Logie Aulton farm at Rothienorman. If anyone is interested, drop us a line via the comment box before the end of December. If there are no takers he’ll be going for slaughter in January.

Hi Dennis,
I have spoken to our local vet who is going to ask someone he knows if he would be interested in Ginger but will not be able to contact the farmer until later this week.I will let you know if anything comes from it.
Happy New Year to you all!
Louise
Thanks for doing that. I’ve also had interest in Ginger from a crofter on Raasay, but he’s gone quiet since Christmas. Probably partied out!
