The BBC has reported that a McDonald’s “restaurant” in Devon is closing because local people won’t eat there and prefer local traders instead.
Not only is the McDonalds in Tavistock closing, but the town has also picked up the award for Best Food Town in the South West.
It just goes to show that people can make a difference by voting with their feet, supporting local businesses and forgoing industrially produced gunge.
Of course, McDonald’s trots out the corporate line about changing trading patterns in the high street but the truth is obvious - the people of Tavistock were not buying the McDonald’s offering.
Good for them.
Now, if we can only do the same for the supermarket chains…

That’s fantastic - Consumer revenge at it’s best.
I remember when Jamie Oliver went to look at food in an Italian school (the law meant it had to be all organic and freshly cooked), the local McDonalds had only lasted 6 months.
Let’s hope this isn’t a one-off !
