One McDonalds down…

The BBC has reported that a McDonald’s “restaurant” in Devon is closing because local people won’t eat there and prefer local traders instead.

Not only is the McDonalds in Tavistock closing, but the town has also picked up the award for Best Food Town in the South West.

It just goes to show that people can make a difference by voting with their feet, supporting local businesses and forgoing industrially produced gunge. Read the rest of this entry »





Congratulations

After three years of hard work, the Other Half learned tonight that she has passed her final exam and gained her Masters in Education (Leadership and Management).

Not only that, but her overall mark was a brilliant 83 per cent.

I’m very pleased for her as it’s been a long, hard slog that’s coincided with moving house, changing jobs several times, getting the croft established, dealing with all the problems we’ve had on the croft, being mum to two delightful boys, and also doing her Scottish Chartered Teacher qualification (equivalent to another Masters). Ouch!!!!

The boys decided this afternoon that it was time to be naughty - with no half-measures.

They started by playing in the mucky, soapy water that I was sweeping out of the pig pen - saying it was lava and splashing in it with great vigour.

After being told “out” for the third time, they decided a new game was in order - climbing on to the log pile and balancing while “crossing the ravine because the baddies are chasing us”. Read the rest of this entry »
