Changing to pedal power

We’ve decided that if we’re going to lead a lower carbon life, then one of the cars has to go.

Yes, that means the Other Half will sell her Land Rover Discovery, my Defender will become the family car (well, the OH’s car), and I’ll be getting a tricycle.

We’re opting for the Winther Kangaroo because, while a substantial investment for us, it comes virtually complete except for front lights, can carry two children, is very robust, has good weather protection for the passengers, has proper seats with seat belts and can carry a load of up to 100kg. While we don’t buy into the Scottish educational system’s penchant for endless boring worksheets, we do encourage the Big Lad to practice what he’s been learning at school and to come up with his own projects than he can take in for show-and-tell.

So the Big Lad couldn’t believe his luck when his P2 class covered transport as the theme for their last term’s study, as he loves vehicles, machinery, aircraft and boats.

He spent hours thinking about what he could do for show-and-tell before deciding to make a presentation about “Transport and my family”. (Family is another of his interests.) Read the rest of this entry »
