Graham gets to work
5 11 2006He’s only been in with the girls for 24 hours, but we can report that Graham the boar is definitely up to the job and Doris has definitely had a couple of “seeing-tos” already.
Delilah, the in-pig gilt who’s also in with them, has also been quick to take advantage.
While Graham and Doris are off indulging themselves, Delilah has been quick to spot the opportunity to scoff all the pig feed!
However, Delilah will soon lose this opportunity as she’s about to be moved into her own separate quarters as she’s due to farrow in about three weeks.

Better start eating up the pork in freezer I think, next lot sounds as though it will be even tastier!
The next batch, due for slaughter in mid to late January, will be a pair of Tamworths and a mixed bag cross-breed!. Three halves are already spoken for and possibly a fourth, so there’s still some left.
As for the litter due from Delilah, if we get live births and if they survive, we’d be aiming at an April slaughter date. But that’s a long way off and all sorts of things can happen before then.
But you’re right, Berkshires make some of the tastiest pork and while Delilah’s litter will be Tamworth crosses, they should still be very tasty.
But never count your piglets before they’re farrowed!
