The hedonistic, existentialist crofter
13 09 2006One of the things I like most about the internet is that you can stumble across all matter of weird, wonderfrul and trivial pieces of information.
Today, I found the What philosophy do you follow? quiz.
With a few minutes to spare before the Big Lad caught the school bus, I quickly filled in my answers (always the best way to do these things so you don’t tailor your answers) and clicked Submit.
So, what philosophy do I follow out here on the croft?
It appears I’m:
95% Existentialist
90% Hedonist
75% Fair Justice
After that, I decline fairly rapidly with 40% or less for utilitarianism, nihilism, srong egoism, apathy and kantianism. As for divine command, I came up with a magnificent zero.
Now I can certainly accept the existentialism and justice results, but I was rather surprised to see I rated so highly as a hedonist. It must be that I enjoy the pain of being a crofter! ![]()

I came out as Justice as top…..which is very me!
Fab link……hope you dont mind, but I borrowed it?
I’m not surprised going by your posts here and elsewhere.
As for linking, I’m sure the originator of the quiz will be more than happy to get more traffic going his way.
My top 3 were similar to your responses:
Existentialism 85%
Hedonism 80%
Justice 75%
The rest tagged along; but I was surprised to find Divine Command registered as high as 60%.
Interesting and fun to complete.
Gday Big Bro, here’s my results for your enlightenment.
Hedonism 85%
Utilitarianism 70%
Apathy/Justice 60%
Existentialism 55%
Kantianism/Strong Egoism/Nihilism 45%
and Divine Command a big fat zero.
I expected apathy to be higher, but cant really seem to be bothered!

Hmm. I’m an Existentialist (75%). Apparently. Swiftly followed by : Hedonism 70% ; Utilitarianism 60% (I dont even know what this is!); Justice (Fairness) 45% ; Kantianism 40% ; Strong Egoism 30% ; Divine Command 30% (not a surprise) ; Apathy 15% ; Nihilism 15%
A utilitarian generally seeks the greatest good for the greatest number. Wikipedia has a good overview at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utilitarianism
i got 100% existentialist
