Schools are joining the rush to identify children electronically with Holland Park School in London planning to fingerprint all 1,500 of its students when they return after the summer break.
According to a Sunday Times article, Fingerprinting plan for pupils angers parents, the comprehensive has spent £4,500 on the technology to build a database so that children’s time of arrival can be recorded in a “live register” by pressing a finger on an electronic pad.
Of course, Kensington and Chelsea Council, which runs the school, trots out the usual lines about the move being necessary for the safety and security of the students and staff, while saying the data will not be shared nor will it be available to the police. Read the rest of this entry »
