Final hatching eggs for the year

One of the things you have to do with chickens is anticipate the downtimes in terms of egg laying and ensure you have some hens coming into lay as the older ones stop for the moult.

Many of our hens can be expected to stop laying around September/October, and we already have four pullets due to come into lay around then.

However, when the older hens come back into lay early next year we can expect fewer eggs from them so we’ll need to ensure we have more pullets coming into lay to see us through to next summer. Read the rest of this entry »
