Country Smallholding arrived in the post the other day and, while I do enjoy reading it, it’s very definitely a magazine for the affluent middle classes who’ve sold up and bought into the “good life”.

The cover story of the latest edition is no exception.

Reducing fuel consumption

One of ways in which the Other Half and I cut back on our consumption and reduce emissions is by thinking about the way we drive our cars.

For the OH in particular, moving from the sporty, petrol-fuelled hatchback she had a few years ago to rather more sedate, diesel-fuelled Land Rovers has been enlightening.

She’s come to realise and accept that by driving more slowly, thinking ahead when driving and carefully planning your trips you can save both money and the planet, while enjoying the journey more.
