Grilled rabbit

If you’ve managed to bag a two brace of young rabbits or bought a couple farmed rabbits from the butcher then a good alternative to roasting is to grill them.

Cut the skinned and paunched rabbits into joints.

Place the heads, ribs, hearts and livers into a pan with a small stick of celery, a small carrots, a small onion, and a bay leaf. Read the rest of this entry »





Busy as bees

It’s been a busy few weeks on the croft as we finally had a spell of good weather with temperatures ranging from 18 to 21C, with one day of 23C. It makes a change from cold and gales - it is supposed to be summer!

The improving weather has kept us busy in the garden, not least because we lost the bulk of the broad beans to a southerly gale that snapped the 1in stakes as well as the plants. Still, the surviving beans did taste good!

We’ve also been busy getting the chicken fort ready with it’s 6ft 6in perimeter fence secured top and bottom with electrified wire, plus mesh buried around the outside, plus ballast over the top of that. Read the rest of this entry »
